| There’s a new surf DVD out, and it’s so good that we can't let this one get into the wrong hands, especially the West Coast. Grem67 Productions and Lone Wolf films brings us, With All Due Respect: New York Delivers, and the title says it all. This film captures some of Long Island’s best surfing action, and when you see the footage you’re not going to believe your eyes. Not only does New York have the Yankees, the best pizza, but we also have some pumping, world-class surf. Longboard or shortboard, it doesn’t matter what you prefere because our surf can fulfill any demand, from big mush-burgers to double overhead barrels that you could disappear behind for what would seem like a blissful eternity. But outsiders be warned, if you’re going to surf New York, you better like it cold. There’s only a few of months out of the year that we get to surf in boardshorts. And in the winter, it’s a minimum of 5mm wetsuits, booties and gloves. The wetsuits keep you warm, but all cold water surfers will attest that every once and a while, you’ll eat it the wrong way, and all that frigid water will go rushing into your wetsuit. Is it cold? It’s freaking electrifying, like sticking raw wires to your tongue. The man responsible for this DVD, is Clark Lipton. It's his first film, but he's no stranger to the waves in the area. He has been surfing in Long Island for about fifteen years, so it’s understandable that he didn’t want to give out the exact locations of the shoots. “I've been filming for about two years,” says Lipton. “I really started getting into filming when I broke my thumb and was out for 10 weeks with pins holding my thumb together.” |

With All Due Respect, features footage from last year's Unsound Pro Surf Contest to the much talked about Blizzard of 2006 that sent some gnarly surf into the area. Now it’s understandable that some New York locals may not be too happy about this film, but don’ t worry. The heavy surf will always clear the line up of beginners and the cold water will keep our fair weather friends away. Trust me, nobody is going to be flying in from the warmer regions in the middle of January to get barreled on Long Island. This film is good for the local surf community. As Lipton says, “Grem67 productions and Lone Wolf films work together to capture the best of New York's world class surfing conditions while also showing respect to and for the New York Surfing culture.” Sounds good to me, but don’t take my word for it. Check out this DVD for yourself, it’s a must have for any collector or New York surfer. To watch clips from this video or to buy it now click here |
